Eli Poferl is an associate attorney at Watton Law Group. He was drawn to a legal career for two reasons: it would allow him to help people out of difficult times, and he would constantly be challenged to better himself and his profession. In bankruptcy, which heavily relies on federal laws, there are still constantly changing circumstances for attorneys to explore and more reliable ways to represent clients in need. Thanks to his balanced and consistent approach to casework, he is capable of helping a bankruptcy client from their initial consultation to their confirmation hearing, showing them the positive sides of bankruptcy all the while.
Eli grew up in a suburb of Twin Cities, Minnesota, and found an early love for lacrosse. While attending St. John’s University, he took the chance to study abroad in Rome and Athens. In Greece, he ran a traditional marathon with his mother.
After graduating from college, Eli moved to Omaha, Nebraska, to attend Creighton’s School of Law. While attending law school, he applied for a master’s program at Creighton’s Heider School of Business, ran two Lincoln Marathons, earned a mediation certificate, and received a Cali Award for Excellence in the International Law Course. During one summer at Creighton, Eli began clerking at a firm that practiced a wide variety of law, which aided him not only in law school but also on the bar exam.
Today, Eli enjoys working directly with clients at Watton Law Group, so he can personally show them how to use bankruptcy to reach a debt-free, stress-free future. He is known by his peers and clients alike as a clever problem-solver who can adapt to changing situations.
A new Salt Lake City area transplant, Eli is currently looking to join community legal groups and perhaps coach youth lacrosse in his spare time. He likes to spend time outdoors with his soon to be wife, Linsey, and his two dogs.
