James M. Conley is an Associate at Watton Law Group who provides client-focused representation from our Colorado office. A trusted advocate, he is passionate about helping individuals, and families find sustainable solutions to their debt-related problems.

The son of a lawyer, James grew up around the law and has always had an appreciation for the many roles attorneys take when aiding people in times of need – whether it be as an advocate, legal translator, or guide for folks and families navigating unfamiliar processes. He made the decision early in college to pursue a career in law, earning his undergraduate degree in Philosophy with a Minor in English from the University of Puget Sound before going on to obtain his J.D. from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law.

Following law school, James began his career as an Associate for a civil litigation firm, where he represented employees in employment litigation matters and handled a range of cases involving wage claims, civil rights discrimination, FMLA interference and retaliation, breach of contract, fraudulent inducement, and construction defects. His experience fighting for individuals in consequential cases allowed him to transition effectively to fighting for debtors in bankruptcy and debt relief matters.

As an attorney at Watton Law Group, James appreciates the importance of his role in helping clients navigate complex legal issues that can be full of ambiguities and charged with considerable emotions. He knows that bankruptcy is a technical area of law and invests time into ensuring his clients know what to expect, what’s happening in their cases, and what steps they need to take to be successful. He is also mindful of the fact that bankruptcy often involves planning for the future and works to ensure his clients have the tools and tailored solutions that help them move forward in a successful manner.

With an approach rooted heavily in communication, James is known for putting clients at ease, even when they are faced with challenging dilemmas. Clients appreciate his diligence in helping them understand key issues in their cases, their available options, and the various practical considerations that go along with them. They also appreciate his ability to decipher complicated legal concepts in ways that are down to earth and easy to understand.

James is a Colorado native who was raised in Centennial. When he is not advocating for clients, he coaches high school soccer and occasionally plays soccer himself in a men’s league. He enjoys watching sports, spending time with friends and family, and getting outside whenever he can.
